Welcome to Heidelberg!
Heidelberg is not only home of Germany’s oldest university, but also a beautiful town where fascinating history and idyllic nature meet. Heidelberg lies on the River Neckar surrounded by the mountains of the Odenwald. In Heidelberg, you can walk the picturesque Old Town, visit the famous castle or enjoy the so-called Philosopher’s Walk that offers a magnificent view at the entire town.
Visitors more interested in Heidelberg’s 625 years of academic tradition will want to visit the university library or join Heidelberg’s students in one of the countless pubs and cafes.
Heidelberg is among the warmest towns in Germany, and jokingly even called “the northern-most town of Italy”. This name does not only refer to the warm climate, but also to nightlife in summer, when Heidelberg’s places are full of people enjoying the warm nights in cafes and bars.
The Institute of Sports and Sports Sciences (ISSW) is located in Heidelberg University’s New Campus (Neuenheimer Feld). The New Campus is the largest campus for natural sciences and life science in Germany. The ISSW offers course rooms as well as all kinds of athletic facilities to students.
